://about blank

Raw, political techno collective near Ostkreuz with a legendary summer garden, anti-commercial ethos, and FLINTA*-forward safer space culture.

Overview

The Philosophy

://about blank is not just a club - it's a politically conscious collective that merges techno culture with left-wing activism. Since opening near Ostkreuz station, it has positioned itself as an explicitly anti-commercial space focused on feminism, climate justice, anti-discrimination, and safer party culture. The name itself (://about blank, playing on the HTML "about:blank" browser error page) signals a DIY, anti-corporate ethos. This is a place where diversity, consent, and political awareness are just as important as the music.

The Venue

Located at Markgrafendamm 24c on the border between Friedrichshain and Lichtenberg, ://about blank hides behind a deliberately inconspicuous façade that looks more like an abandoned squat than a nightclub. Inside, the aesthetic is raw and industrial: concrete walls, graffiti-tagged corridors, minimal lighting, and worn leather sofas. There are multiple connected dance floors including the MDF, Lobby, and indoor spaces that can function flexibly - sometimes as darkrooms, sometimes as additional DJ booths.

But the real magic happens in the Garten (garden), which opens from May to September. This sprawling outdoor area becomes the heart of the club during summer, with a tent (Zelt) housing another dance floor, trees providing shade, and an atmosphere that feels more like a Berlin squat party than a commercial venue. There's also a small pizza corner serving affordable food for those inevitable 6 AM hunger pangs.

The Sound System

While ://about blank doesn't have the budget for top-tier gear like Funktion-One, they've cleverly built a custom system using refurbished speakers upgraded with modern, high-powered drivers. What makes their setup unique is that all dance floors are digitally interconnected via a mainframe controller, allowing flexible sound routing - they can send music from one DJ booth to another floor, or pipe indoor music outside. The club is famously vinyl-friendly, with multiple Technics MK2 turntables in working order.

Music & Crowd

The musical focus is house and techno, with occasional bass, disco, and experimental nights. The bookings lean toward underground and emerging artists rather than big-name headliners, reflecting the anti-commercial stance. Regular party series include politically themed nights, FLINTA*-only events, and queer-forward lineups. The crowd is young (18+ with occasional 21+ nights), diverse, and genuinely engaged with the political mission of the space. You'll find activists, artists, students, and long-time Berlin ravers who appreciate the unpretentious, community-driven vibe.

Door Policy & Culture

The door policy is notably more relaxed than Berghain or Sisyphos. As long as you're respectful, not visibly drunk, and arrive in small groups (avoid large groups of men), you should have no problem getting in. The door team prioritizes diversity and openness, actively working to create a safer space for marginalized communities. Peak times (1:00-2:30 AM) see longer lines, so arriving earlier or later is strategic.

Inside, camera lenses are taped over (stickers come off easily), but the photo ban is less strict than at Berghain. The overall atmosphere is welcoming, inclusive, and explicitly political - you might see awareness posters about consent, anti-fascism, or climate action alongside the DJ booth.

Practical Info

Entry typically costs €10-20, usually landing around €12-15. Drinks start at €3, and the pizza is affordable. The club often offers re-entry stamps, making it possible to party across multiple nights for a single entry fee. It's easily accessible from Ostkreuz S-Bahn station. Cash and card are both accepted.
